Simple Steps to Protect Your Home from Burglars

Whether you live in a seemingly safe or dangerous neighborhood, it is important that you take precautions to protect your family and home from burglars.  Securing your home does not take a great deal of technology or monetary investment; in fact, with a simple few steps, you can significantly increase the safety of your home against burglars.

Securing your safety keys

Safety keys or duplicate keys for your main door should not be kept in an open place.  Many families hang their duplicate keys from hooks near the back door or in the kitchen; this is very dangerous and makes your home susceptible to burglary.  Keeping your duplicate sets in the open allow prying eyes from service providers who enter your home to see exactly where your home keys are, giving them an ability to either snatch your keys or make an impression of them.

Locking the doors and windows when you leave

Many families keep their windows open when they leave the home in order to provide better ventilation to the house.  However, open windows are an open invitation for burglars to come into your home unnoticed by any neighbors.  Keeping your windows and doors closed and locked decreases the ease burglars can enter your home, thus lowering the probability of your home being robbed.

Installing simple burglar alarms

Catching your average burglar does not require expensive alarm systems.  For most situations, simplicity does the trick.  At your local hardware or home store, you can buy several $20 alarms and install them in locations where your valuables, money, and confidential files are stored.

If you do have the budget to purchase an electronic alarm system, this will further protect your home, as a security company will simultaneously monitor your home and notify the authorities should any breach in the system occur.

Using motion sensors

Working on the principle of photosensitivity, motion sensors are great, cost-effective burglar deterrence systems.  Traditionally installed surrounding the doors and entrances of your home, a beam of photosensitive light will break and illuminate the area if an individual crosses a projected line.  Not only does the entire area light up, exposing the culprit, but you can also install a buzzer that is set off when the motion sensor breaks.  Therefore, the burglar is likely to be deterred from robbing your home, as both your family and neighbors will be alerted of the situation.

Integrating burglar alarms with CCTV

If you have a larger budget and wish to take your home protection to the next level, you can integrate your electronic burglar alarms with a CCTV network.  With your mobile phone or laptop connected to the CCTV network, you can keep this network and the alarm switch alerted even when you are not in your home.  Connecting this system to the nearest police station is a further step in anti-burglary sophistication, and this will allow the cops to catch the culprits in real time.

However, if you do not have an ability to install a CCTV network, you can put up fake security cameras around your property; these will greatly deter burglars from targeting your home.  For approximately $30 each, you can purchase battery-powered fake security cameras that will light up and follow any motion in its trajectory.  It is very difficult for burglars to ascertain whether your security cameras are real or fake, and thus, they would rather not take the chance of burglarizing your home.

Implementing anti-burglary precautions

Protecting your family and your home against burglary is of paramount importance, and your safety cannot be compromised.  There are a wide range of protection options, spanning from free to expensive, for you to increase the security of your home and deter burglars from robbing you.
